EFL Cup: Man City beat Chelsea on penalties to win the title again

- EFL Cup final clash saw defending champions Manchester City beat Premier League rivals Chelsea on penalties to win the title
- The game proceeded into penalties following their failure of the two teams to find the back of the net during regulation period
Manchester City have been crowned the 2019 EFL Cup champions after beating Chelsea on penalties at the Wembley Stadium.
The Citizens beat Chelsea 4-3 on penalties following their failure to find the back of the net in open play after 120 minutes.
This evening's victory means that that the Etihad Stadium outfit have won six EFL Cup titles since the start of the competition - after successfully defending the title they won last term.
Liverpool are the record winners of the Cup with eight titles in their cabinet, while Pep Guardiola's men are second on the chart.
It was indeed an end-to-end game for both sides as all their efforts to break the dead lock after regulation period failed to materialise.
But while the match was going to an end, Chelsea boss, Sarri tried making tactical changes when it was certain the game would end in penalties.
However, the world's most expensive goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga refused substitution as Willy Caballero returned to his seat.
Though, the 24-year-old goalkeeper stopped Leroy Sane's penalty from going through, he was unable to keep others from scoring.
Jorginho and David Luiz were the Blues stars who failed to convert their spot kicks as the London club continue to search for their first title of the season under new boss Sarri.
Meanwhile, Guardiola is still on course to winning quadruple this campaign as his side are still very much in contention of other titles.
It would be recalled that they came from behind to Schalke 04 3-2 in the first leg of their Champions League clash in Germany on Wednesday.
They currently sit just one point behind table toppers Liverpool on the Premier League log - which puts them very much in the title chase this campaign.
The Citizens will be looking to retain the title for the second year in a role but the Blues stand in their way in the 2018-19 edition of the competition.
Most intriguing aspect of this fixture is that Pep Guardiola's men few days back, humiliated the west London side 6-0 in a Premier League fixture at the Etihad.
